The United States is preparing to receive its first Russian diesel shipment under a new arrangement between President Donald Trump and Moscow.
According to Reuters, a tanker loaded with approximately 40,000 metric tons of diesel departed Russia's Baltic port of Primorsk and is expected to arrive in the United States around November 7.
The agreement comes as the White House attempts to bring down fuel prices ahead of the November midterm elections.
Russia has also agreed to expand diesel exports after lifting its own restrictions.
The arrangement raises uncomfortable questions about U.S. sanctions policy while Russia continues its war in Ukraine.
For American consumers, additional diesel supplies could provide some relief.
